A Mighty Fortress is our God

The ambiguity behind Christian reference to Psalms in the Old Testament is the difference in meaning between what the Psalmist was referring to when he spoke of God being a ‘mighty fortress’ and what the present day writer is trying feebly to convey. The context is the feeble hope that Jesus and the Old Testament are one in spirit. However this particular Psalm, like the next, is about ‘God subduing nations and their peoples under the feet of what is now known as Israel. A wholly grotesque and sublimely anti-Christian position.
The psalmists hadn’t a clue what God was like and imagined him to be a God who fought with them in their genocidal activities.
